Italy Voted Best European DestinationUp to three in ten of those that voted in the magazine's poll selected Italy as their destination of choice, with food proving one of the major head turners.

But it was Greece that turned in the biggest surprise, coming in at second. However, backpacking tourists on a budget could be deterred from an Italian adventure in favour of cheaper destinations due to the unfavourable euro exchange rate, reports Reuters.
